In the heart of the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, Tupper Lake's exciting, annual event attracts thousands of spectators and hundreds of competitors for a weekend of parades, logging demonstrations, thrilling competition, and fun. Horse pulling, chainsaw carving, axe throwing, skidder and loader driving, and team greased pole-climbing make up some of the great events.

The parade will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Homestead Park and cotinue down Main Street to Pearl Street. Following the parade, there will be a food stand next to the Chamber office on Main Street along with music provided by the "Back Porch Boys', and "Continental and More". Also, the Brockport Pipe Band will give a performance on the green after the parade. Local vendors will be on site and there will be activities for children.

Sponsored by High Peaks RC, Inc., of Keene, NY, Thunder Over Tupper Lake will be held on August 4th from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and August 5th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This event will offer an 800 foot long short-grass runway and showcase Aerobatics flying to include 3D flying, Scale, Military Airplanes, including jets, trainer airplanes, electric airplanes, F3 speed airplanes and more. There is no admission fee for spectators.

9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Foot traffic is eroding the soil on Adirondack High Peaks, which puts rare alpine plants at risk for local extinction. Join the Wild Center, Adirondack Mountain Club and Adirondack Nature Conservancy in efforts to preserve these delicate regions by carrying a rock to the top of Wright Peak. Pre-registration is required. Packets containing directions to the Heart Lake Visitor's Center, equipment list and details about the day will be sent out upon registration.

AWA Marathon Canoe Race to Tupper Lake

This 30-mile flatwater race starts at the Saranac Inn on Upper Saranac Lake at 9:00 a.m. and then goes south the length of the lake to Indian Carry (1 mile) to Stony Creek Ponds. Paddlers make their way down the twisty Stony Creek and turn right onto Raquette River. The river leads to Simond Pond, where the race ends at the Tupper Lake Rod and Gun Club. Entry fee is $30 per paddler.

Adirondack Canoe Classic

This three-day 90-mile flatwater rase follows the original highways of the Adirondacks from Old Forge to Saranac Lake. The course offers a mix of lake and river flatwater paddling with several carries. Participants receive a t-shirt, mileage pins, awards, camping, snacks, boat shuttles and a post race meal. Entry forms for this race go out via U.S. mail in June. The 90-miler is limited to 250 boats. Entry deadline is July 25. Entry fee is $125 per paddler.
